Little Shawl DancerAt the Red Cliff Early Childhood Center, our culture and the Ojibwe language are the heart of our curriculum. It is our belief that teaching our Ojibwe children their own traditions, culture, and language will greatly increase their self-esteem by understanding their role in the world’s history. Knowing these concepts will help them further their willingness to be successful in the modern world.

We strongly believe that a child’s social and emotional development is intrinsically tied to their ability to develop skills related to their educational achievement as well as their overall physical and mental health. We recognize each child as a unique individual, developing at his or her own rate.

We use our cultural curriculum, Nandagikendan, “We Seek to Learn,” and Creative Curriculum for Head Start and Early Head start center based educational services. Home base teachers use Nandagikendan and the Parents as Teachers curriculum. We plan developmentally appropriate, individualized lessons and activities that support our child-centered, play-based approach to early learning.
